About the town

A small Mediterranean village, Bouzigues has known how to preserve its old-world charm through its old streets, its promenade along the lagoon, its pleasant beaches, its friendly fishing ports and marina.

But all this apparent peacefulness does not let you forget that this fishing village is very dynamic :
like a jewel when compared to nearby larger towns, Bouzigues has been the birthplace of shellfish farming in the Etang de Thau since 1925, when Louis Tudesq and other inhabitants of the village succeeded in perfecting techniques for farming oysters and mussels.

Since then, farming techniques have evolved considerably. To preserve the memory of the elders' work, in 1991 the town council opened to the Public the Museum of the Etang de Thau , an establishment dedicated to the "Farmers of the Sea".

The town's constant interest in making itself known and recognised for the quality of its shelfish and the picturesque charm of its village has earned Bouzigues the position of being enrolled amongst the 100 Remarkable Site of French Taste .
