About the town

The Medieval village of Poussan was founded by La Gens Porcia (a 1st Century BC Gallo-Roman family).

A fortified village built in a circular pattern, Poussan was first mentioned in the year 960.

During the 11th C, the village started to take its present shape around its successive castles (12th, 14th, 17th Cs).

Places of interest - Sites :

The old town, 14th C Chteau Malbois with its coffered ceiling (Renaissance, 15th and 16th Cs), 12th C Chateau Montlaur, 17th C les Poivrières, Saint-Pierre Church - Three churches in one (12th, 15th and 19th Cs), 14th Century Presbytery, an outstanding example of Southern Gothic architecture, 16 C Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs with its 17th C door, The town Gate, the 12th C ramparts.

Activities :
Guided visits by appointment may to October, 10 a.m tuesdays and 3 p.m thursday. All year round, for groups.
Night time medieval guided visits : 10th and 24th July - 7th and 21th August.

Tennis, shooting range (clay pigeon shooting), horse riding...

Festival and Events :
Mardi Gras Carnival.
Local festival, the first sunday of august. Sainte Catherine Fair (November). Christmas Market 9th December.
Market every Tuesday and friday morning. Fiesta Latina, 27/07/2002.

Wine from the La Maure hills from Co-operative winery.
Poussan Nougat.
